From victim to survivor
"Exit Sign" is about watching someone leave you like they'd been planning it all along. The red glow of the exit sign becomes the central image: a constant reminder of where they were always heading. It's about the shock of realizing they packed their emotional bags long before the physical ones.
But the song doesn't stay in that place. By the final chorus, Colby transforms the metaphor: "I'm taking down the exit signs, rebuilding these walls that once were mine." It becomes an anthem of reclamation.
